First Vice President:
Membership
Lindy Jackson, BPW Upper Hutt
Lyndy is married with
a daughter, two sons and a step daughter and has two granddaughters,
two grandsons and a step grandson, all aged between 18 years
and 0. The older children keep her young, the younger ones
wear her out! Lyndy gained many years experience in
the Retail Grocery business until a change in direction
three years ago. Lyndy now works for NZ Diving and Salvage
as office manager doing whatever needs to be done to provide
a smooth running service both nationally and internationally.
Over and above BPW, Lyndy even finds time for other local
volunteer service!
Lyndy
joined BPW (Upper Hutt Branch) in 2004 thinking it was a
business networking group, and discovered so much more.
Lyndy has held a variety of offices including Presidency
for 2009 and 2010. Lyndy has also attended the BPW National
Conference as a delegate each year since 2005. Lyndys
concern at falling membership helped set a club goal to
increase membership by 10 women this year - not just any
women, but women who are aware of BPWs advocacy role
and have the passion and enthusiasm required to fulfil the
aims of the club.
Lyndy believes in doing what she says she will do, and giving
up-front and honest feedback. She also believes that communication
between clubs around the country is pivotal to BPWs
success and her goal will be to encourage and establish
a means to do this.
Candidate for Executive Secretary Personal Statement:
I am the mother of eight, grandmother of 12.5 and great-grandmother of 2, teacher, avid reader and enthusiastic technophile. I live in a big house with a menagerie of dogs, cats, chooks and goat, and 2 adult sons who won’t leave home, get married and produce more grandchildren, although (fingers crossed) it looks like there is some movement in that area!
I enjoy any kind of exercise that I can watch from the couch. Don’t have much time for sports, unless NZ is winning, then just gimme the score. I like tramping round the mountain, swimming with the grandkids, movies ditto and date nights ditto. I hate cooking; I would rather do the dishes. Love shopping and love teaching. My biggest weakness? Chocolate! Work experience:
I have run my own business in partnership with my husband since 1986, when my youngest child was a year old. We had a cycle/sports/engraving/locksmith business which has evolved over the years, until now I am a sole trader doing contract work as Regional Coordinator for Computers in Homes, market research for Research International, engraving for a select clientele, and other contracts as required. Volunteer Experience:
I have served in various community organisations, mostly as a secretary. I began my church service at the age of 12, teaching a class of 6-8 year olds, but have undertaken the roles of president, counsellor, secretary or board member in various church auxiliaries since then. I have taught adults, children and youth classes, notably 9 years as a seminary teacher. Currently, I play the organ for church services, and teach the youth Sunday School class. BPW experience:
I joined BPW in 2006 after I attended a meeting at the invitation of a woman in my yoga class. That first meeting was Candlelighting, and I was convinced that I’d stumbled into a coven. However, the women were far from being witches, and I initially joined for the networking opportunities and the chance to meet women outside of my usual circle. I was asked to take on the role of secretary in 2008 and found that BPW was a whole lot more when I attended the national conference in Masterton in 2009 as Hawera’s very green (confused) and very sole delegate.
In 2010, I took on the role of Executive Secretary for the Federation, and found a challenge that I had not anticipated; a challenge that I believe I have not yet conquered.
I would like the chance to continue as Executive Secretary for BPW NZ in 2011/2012. I believe there is more I can do in this role to help BPW NZ in the future.
Occupation: Chartered Accountant in Public Practice – owning own company.
Member of New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants Work Experience
Have been employed since 1985 in positions from senior accountant to office manager and have been a business owner as a partner to 2005 and since then as a sole owner to 2008. During this time I have been a member of the New Zealand Society of Accountants and hold a current practicing certificate.

I joined Upper Hutt BPW when the club started there after the inaugural meetings in 1986 and have been a member since then – for 25 years.

During my time as Treasurer for the Club I participated as Treasurer for the Conference held in Wellington in 1999. I was able to assist with auditing the financial statements when Sharon Puncheon was Federation Treasurer.

"The best way to predict your future is to create it" -Abraham Lincoln.
That is what I believe and how I live. If I have my mind set on something either in work or in my personal life, I will create the path and walk it till I've arrived at my destination. That is how I ended up in New Zealand with a very supportive husband, two beautiful daughters and the best job of my caree - so far. BPW has enriched my life in many ways. This organisation has so much to offer for young women like myself. I am particularly excited about the Keys To Achievement and Mentoring programme and am looking forward to further development of the "Women of Boards" programme.
Anita has a Masters degree in Bioprocess Engineering and has worked in a variety of roles and countries. Anita currently works as site manager for DMV-Fonterra Excipients, working on pharmaceutical grade lactose for tables and inhalation application.
Anita joined BPW Hawera in 2009 and has since held the position of Vice president, Membership and Development and young BPW convenor. Since conference 2010 Anita has held the position of BPW NZ Younng BPW convenor.
Colleen Brooker joined BPW in Hamilton in 1972 then transferred to Auckland. She has held all committee positions in the club and many at New Zealand Federation level including first vice president. Three yearly International meetings have been attended, often as a delegate, since 1984. This networking has given her a broad knowledge of BPW, and issues relating to women in most parts of the world. Colleen was part of a delegation that visited Russia as guest of the Soviet Women's Committee with a view to start up a BPW club in Moscow. She has served as a trustee on the New Zealand Horizons for Women Trust when living in Wellington.
Colleen took on the responsibility for BPW NZ Merchandise 10 years ago and now provides a wide variety of resources for clubs to take advantage of for personal use or for speaker's gifts. Using BPW NZ products is a wonderful way to reinforce the BPW brand.
