About

BPW Warkworth was established in 1984 and has a long history of working for and with women and girls in our community and advocating for women and girls locally, nationally and internationally through our resolutions process.

This last year we focused on perinatal depression, education of midwives, healthy homes and child poverty. We held a “Meet the Candidates” night prior to the elections where we asked the candidates to speak on these issues. This meeting was open to the public from 8pm.

We currently have the following projects on the go:

  • Mentoring years 12 and 13 business studies students at Mahurangi College
  • Making sustainable sanitary products for girls in our community and in the Pacific Islands to enable girls to attend school when they are menstruating. (Days for Girls)
  • Making up care packs for women and children who are victims of domestic violence and have moved into our local Women’s Refuge
  • Delivering BrainFit classes for anyone in our community who needs help to improve their memory and mental agility.

This year we plan to start working with local businesses on equal opportunities for women and young girls venturing into the workplace.
