About
BPW Wellington covers the Wellington, Porirua and Lower Hutt regions. Being based close to Parliament and the national branches of many New Zealand women’s advocacy groups, our club is very active with issues work, such as providing submissions to legislative reviews, draft Bills, UN reports and partnering with organisations such as UN Women, National Council of Women, Rural Women New Zealand and Graduate Women.
We organize two annual community events to raise awareness about key issues impacting women, the first being Red Bay Day about the gender pay gap and the second Women’s Suffrage Day. During national elections, we have organized Meet the Candidate events.
As members, we support one another in the development of our professional, leadership and business potential through mentoring, networking, skill building and empowerment initiatives.
We often use video conferencing to help other members throughout New Zealand meet and be part of our meetings, particularly when we have guest speakers.
Our meetings are held on the second Thursday of month at the JSP Office in Petone and are conducted via Zoom, as we have members throughout NZ and Australia who join us via technology. Our meetings are about one hour long – as we know our women are time poor, and talk on issues that are affecting women for the month or other BPW business .
