BPW New Zealand Candlelighting Message 2026
Tēnā koutou / Greetings
Candlelighting is a significant and cherished ritual across BPW worldwide. What does lighting a candle mean?
Lighting a candle for someone is a timeless gesture, rich in meaning, symbolism, and emotional depth. Whether in moments of remembrance, hope, or spiritual connection, this simple act transcends cultures and traditions. It offers a quiet yet powerful way to express feelings that words alone cannot always convey.
At its heart, lighting a candle represents intention — a prayer, a wish, or a tribute. It can be a source of comfort in times of hardship, a symbol of solidarity, or a way to honour the memory of someone dear. This ritual holds a special place in both personal and shared experiences, bridging the tangible and the intangible in a way that resonates deeply.
A single flame can carry profound messages of love, hope, remembrance, and connection.
As BPW members, we are connected — to our Sisters around the world, through the work we do for women and girls, and through our shared commitment to the BPW Aims. We are connected as members of local clubs, as part of our national federation, and as members of our International Federation.
When we light candles for our BPW Sisters in other countries, we send our love and our hope for the future. We hold in our thoughts the women and children living in war-torn regions, in fear, hardship, and poverty. Together, we join in hope — for peace today, and for peace in the years to come.
Kia kaha.
Arohanui.
