Young BPW

Happy Christmas!

As I stay behind at the office after work. I consider my own safety over this season. I feel a bit silly checking with AI. However it has advised that it’s safer to stay back. Instead of taking a 1hr 40min taxi ride home in the rain. Auckland traffic is no joke!. Above all. I trust my intuition. It has definitely been a month of important decisions  From choosing gifts, to picking that Christmassy outfit to wear to work. For me, it has been jumping feet first onto a regional sports committee. It is very exciting to bring my governance procedure knowledge to the team. The committee is starting from scratch. It’s an opportunity to bring my voice into the room. As well as ensuring platforms and processes are accessible from the very beginning. It has made me reflect on all the speaking and governance opportunities BPW has presented me. I have a wealth of confidence, accountability and influence at my core. No matter your contribution to your club or community. You are making a positive impact. Especially for your professional development. Sometimes I’m sad that I work in a call centre, but it has afforded me the head space to act quickly and help my community. Have a fantastic Christmas and I wish you a bright 2026. Listen to your body and take a rest. Or like me, plan your 2026 half marathon walks across the country.

With a warm hug

Mel Jones – Executive Young BPW New Zealand
