Kaitaia

The atmosphere at Peekaboo this past Saturday, 7 March, was one of relaxed camaraderie and purposeful discussion as guests gathered for an International Women's Day breakfast. Over a vibrant buffet spread, the 'cafe-style' setting provided a warm backdrop for guest speaker Huhana Lyndon to address the pressing socio-economic challenges facing women in Aotearoa. Huhana's address focused on the critical intersection of pay equity and the housing crisis, particularly the lack of suitable accommodation in areas like Te Hiku. She highlighted how these systemic barriers disproportionately affect whānau wellbeing, sparking a robust dialogue among attendees.

A central theme of the morning was the power of collective advocacy through the ballot box. With the General Election approaching, Huhana delivered a clear call to acti8on: the final date to enrol for voting is Labour Weekend. Guests were encouraged to act as ambassadors within their own circles, ensuring friends and whānau are registered to have their voices heard.

The event's energy translated into immediate momentum for BPW (Business and Professional Women), with a number of attendees expressing interest in joining the organisation. The conversation continues at the next BPW meeting on 17 March.
