IPP Resolutions Chair Update

secbpwnz

Currently the Executive committee is focusing on the upcoming conference in May 2025. If you have seen the registration form you will have noted, we are once again making an effort to complete all BPW New Zealand business on day one. This can sometimes be challenging, particularly when we have a good number of resolutions submitted by clubs and Past Presidents.

Later this week those that were submitted are due to go out to clubs. We have 3 Internal and 9 external over a good array of topics and the Resolutions committee looks forward to hearing you feedback following discussions in clubs about the topics.

We often talk about the purpose of having resolutions that then become policy for BPW New Zealand, and the recent work of the Issues Taskforce shows how valuable these become as the government looks to make changes to legislation or enact new legislation.

Over the past week BPWNZ has spoken at the select committee on 3 of the submissions that have been submitted on our behalf. VP Issues Siobhan spoke to the Justice Committee on the Principles of the Treaty of Waitangi Bill last Friday. President Janet Gibb spoke on Wednesday 12th February on the Pay Transparency amendment bill. And will again speak on our behalf on Thursday the 20th of February on the Evidence (Giving Evidence of Family Violence) Amendment Bill.

The organisation is often given the opportunity to present an oral submission and while there is a good team of members that can support our VP Issues there is always room for more. If you are interested in being part of the Issues Taskforce don’t hesitate to reach out to either Siobhan or Teresa Mee who is ably supporting her this year.

Remember that as members we have submitted, debated and approved policy that allows us to make these submissions working to make sure that the voice of women and girls is not

lost in the making of laws not just in our country but around the world as we take our policy

to the international arena during the BPW International Congress as well.
