President's Update

Kia ora koutou,

Welcome to August – the month where we celebrate BPW worldwide and many clubs and federations dress in yellow to honour all sisters around the world. It is also a month where daffodils spring from the earth and many raise funds for the Cancer Society by selling the daffodils and holding other events.

We sadly heard of the passing of President Ambica Shrestha, BPW Nepal. On behalf of all BPW NZ members I sent our condolences:

Dear family, friends and colleagues of Ambica.

BPW New Zealand send you our heartfelt condolences on Ambica's passing. We had a special regard for a special lady. This is such sad news about a strong, gracious woman. She was lovely and powerful all in one - a real inspiration.

Ambica to us was BPW Nepal. She was a truly magnificent woman, and we all owe so much to her. A wonderful woman who leaves a big hole.

We know Ambica was very appreciative of the work BPW NZ did on behalf of BPW Nepal and she radiated her concern for the plight of so many women in her country and galvanised many young women to join BPW.

BPW NZ will always remember Ambica and are thinking of you all in your grief.”

Within this newsletter we have an article written by Diana O’Brien on the close association BPW NZ had with BPW Nepal and specifically President Ambica and the Nepal Literacy project.

BPW Aotearoa continues to deliver monthly zoom sessions with inspiring speakers – open to all members and guests. Follow our facebook page and website for details.

Our Leadership Forum programme on 5th October is coming to you soon – please register and make plans to join us where we will also present award winners with the trophies and celebrate together 85 years of BPW in Aotearoa NZ.

We are planning our representation at BPW International Congress in November, where we will move 4 external resolutions, one internal and second a resolution for another country. There will be other important decisions to be made on how we vote on all resolutions and for international positions. Information is shown on the BPW International website here.

I will continue to deliver my highest value through compelling influence. Nga Mihi Nui President Janet
